Enel X Romania has completed the modernization of the public lighting infrastructure in Mașloc, Timiș county

Bucharest, December 30th, 2019 – Enel X Romania, a subsidiary of Enel X, the Enel Group’s advanced energy services business line, has successfully completed the modernization of the public lighting infrastructure in Mașloc township, located in Timiș county.

“Enel X Romania is committed to enhance the efficiency of the energy consumption through investments that can change the well-being of large number of people. Thus, though our technology innovative projects, we want to enable a more efficient consumption of energy in public spaces, helping local authorities lower their electricity costs. We also provide support for the roll-out of the circular economy concept for the sustainable urban development strategies, starting from the consultancy offered to choose the most efficient solutions, to presenting the benefits to the local authorities and up to the local production of the appliances used for the project, becoming thus, a reliable partner in public lighting projects”, said Marius Chiriac, Head of Enel X Romania.

The modernization process involved the replacement of the older sodium-vapor lamps used for public lighting with 700 high performance LED streetlights. The modernization works, whose execution lasted about one month and a half, involved the installation of 82.4W lighting devices on the main streets as well as 57.7W streetlamps on the secondary streets.

The LED streetlamps will significantly reduce electricity consumption as well as the maintenance cost of the public lighting infrastructure. Thus, the electricity savings are estimated to reduce by almost 45% the public lighting energy needs (a decrease of the annual consumption by 139 MWh), even though the total number of streetlamps up and running in Mașloc has increased from 663 to 700 devices. The investment is expected to be amortised in about three years.

“We are very pleased with the professional manner in which our partners in this project, Enel X, performed the modernizing works of the public lighting. This project will bring a number of important benefits related to the reduction of the electricity expenses, the maintenance of the lighting system and to the increase of the comfort and safety of the inhabitants of our township. I consider this to be another important step that we have taken within the energy efficiency action plan that we intend to implement in Mașloc”, said Ionel Lupu, the mayor of Mașloc.

The equipment manufacturer is GDS Lighting, a global partner of Enel X in supplying public LED luminaires. The LED streetlights used in Mașloc are manufactured in Romania, in a GDS Lighting factory in Arad.

The modernisation of street lighting infrastructure in Mașloc also marks a premiere, being the first project in Romania delivered by Enel X in partnership with GDS Lighting.
