What are batteries used for in the industrial sector?
Energy Storage systems serve 3 main functions:
- “Load levelling” or optimising self-production with respect to energy taken from the grid, so that surplus energy produced can be stored and then used at times when power from the grid is more costly
- “Peak shaving” or reducing load peaks, by storing energy to use at peak demand times, thereby obtaining savings by using the energy at lower rates
- “Resilience” or ensuring the continuity of the energy supply to production processes by managing any potential interruptions in the supply from the grid.
