Enel X’s circular economy model takes centre stage at EXCO 2019

May 15 was overshoot day in Italy, the date that marks the moment in which a country has consumed all of its natural resources that the Earth is capable of generating in one year and from which point on it begins to utilise resources that cannot be regenerated by the natural cycle. On May 15th, and on the following day too, Confindustria held a series of workshops about the circular economy, in collaboration with Enel X as part of di EXCO 2019. This event, which focuses on international cooperation, is held every year at the Fiera di Roma exhibition centre in Rome, Italy. Managers, academics and sustainability experts explained that the only way to tackle the growing lack of resources and climate change is to shift away from the current linear economic model of “produce, consume, discard” to a circular model in which services take the place of products and in which waste is given value and transformed into resources that can prolong the life cycle of the objects we use.
