“We keep our promises” is the title that ANCI - Associazione Nazionale Comuni Italiani (Association of Italian Municipalities) chose for its tenth National Conference for young administrators in Italy, held at the Archaeological Museum in Olbia, Sardinia, on 6 and 7 September 2019.
The Conference, organised by the Associazione Nazionale Comuni Italiani, is an annual assembly that gathers public administrators aged under 35 from all over Italy for shared discussion of the issues connected to the organisation of urban settings and the current challenges faced by Italy’s cities. Today we are at an important and delicate moment in history; in addition to the overwhelming changes in the climate, we are also witnessing an incisive, and equally necessary, energy transition.
Francesco Piludu, coordinator of ANCI Youth, Sardinia and municipal councillor for Quartu Sant'Elena, opened the conference. He was followed by a welcome address from Settimo Nizzi, Mayor of Olbia. Attendees at the event in Gallura included Emiliano Deiana, President of ANCI Sardinia and Mayor of Bortigiadas Gallura; Michele Pais, President of the Regional Council of Sardinia and Antonio Piga, municipal councillor for Calangianus and ANCI Youth, Sardinia delegate.
The event combined opportunities for debate with panels and speeches, presentations of real-life cases from the “field” and discussions involving numerous participants about the targets to pursue in the next decade in order to create more sustainable, greener and smarter cities. Given the “green” issues, it was natural that the debate should include a contribution from an organisation like Enel X, also present at the event with its Smart City corner where the e-City team was on hand to provide information and answer participants’ questions.
