Enel X returns to the track for the second season of the per Smart EQ fortwo e-cup, the Smart-branded the electric single-make touring series which begins with a three-day round from May 3 to 5 at the Vallelunga circuit near Rome. We will be partnering the competition once again this year, guaranteeing power and charging, thanks to our innovative JuicePole charging columns.
What’s new about this year’s Smart e-cup
The leading 100% electric touring series spans six events for the 2019 season, using the same two-race format for each round as in the last edition. There are also plenty of new features, however, from the new Aci Sport Italian Alternative Energies Championship to the debut of the new Smart e-cup EVO. Over 80 kg lighter than the car that raced last year as a result of new technical features and carbon-fibre details, the EVO’s signatures are its lower centre of gravity and spacers on its front wheels, both of which will boost its stability on the track.
The race calendar
After a preview on April 13, with a parade at the ABB FIA Formula E E-Prix in Rome, and its debut at Vallelunga, the season will continue on the weekend of May 18 and 19 with a round at Misano near Rimini. The Adria circuit near Rovigo will then host the third round on July 6 and 7. After the summer break, the Smart EQ fortwo e-cup returns to Vallelunga on September 14 and 15, while the Levante Autodrome at Magione near Perugia plays host to the fifth round between October 26 and 27.
As was the case last year, the season’s finale takes place at the Franciacorta circuit near Brescia during the weekend of November 9 and 10. Aside from attending in person, e-cup fans can also watch the action as it is live-streamed on both Smart Italia’s Facebook page and SportMediaset.
Also up for grabs in addition to the Italian ACI Sport Alternative Energies Champion title will be a purse worth a total of 30,000 euro which will be split between the top three teams in the overall standings and the winners of the special Lady (women’s), Junior (under 21), Gentleman (over 50) and Rookie (motorsport debutants) classes. The final standings will be calculated by adding together the 10 best results from the 12 races on the programme. The public can also help their favourites to climb up through the standings by using the smart fanboost, which will add three extra bonus points to the total of the driver who gets most likes on the Championship Facebook page between the start of the weekend and just before the start of Race 1.
Enel X’s involvement as official partner and supplier of the new-generation JuicePole charging stations for the second season of the Smart EQ fortwo e-cup shows its commitment to spreading the culture of sustainable e-mobility in sport and beyond: from the temples of speed to the streets of our cities.
