In the land of kangaroos electric energy too can have its sudden ups and downs. However, as they say down under, ‘No worries’ because since November the stability of the Australian grid has been ensured by the technology of EnerNOC: the Enel Group Company that provides Frequency Control Ancillary Services (FCAS).
More stable systems, rapid intervention services and lower emissions
This is the first time that distributed demand-side resources have provided grid balancing ancillary services in Australia’s national electricity market. This technique enables a reinforcement of overall security of the energy system, providing up to 70 MW of FCAS and ensuring an uninterrupted supply of power to all users when the regular flow is disturbed and if unexpected events occur. EnerNOC’s distributed network of devices instantaneously detects imbalances on the grid and then safely and automatically decreases customer loads, usually in less than one second. Numerous industries stand to benefit from this service, such the cold storage sector and manufacturing.
We are thrilled to be a part of the ongoing transition to a system based on distributed energy resources in Australia
