Kompania Górnicza: Flexibility at 16,000 Tonnes a Day

How one of Poland’s largest aggregate producers participates in Demand Response

A processing plant running at 1,000 tonnes an hour, feeding an automated loading system that dispatches six to eight trains of aggregate a day, does not have much slack in it. Rising electricity prices and the capacity fee had made energy one of the largest costs attached to that output.

Kompania Górnicza was first introduced to Enel X Polska at an industry conference. What convinced the company was the transparency with which the demand reduction mechanism was presented, and the prospect of measurable financial benefits behind it.

The result is multi-year revenue for reduction readiness, plus separate compensation for each capability test carried out during the year, under a demand side response agreement built around how the plant actually runs.

Inside the case study

  • The six criteria that decided Kompania Górnicza’s choice of aggregator
  • How reduction capacity is assessed at a continuous-processing site to maximise the benefit available
  • Why capability tests are paid separately from readiness, and how often they are called
  • How energy monitoring supports cost optimisation beyond the programme itself.

Joining the Demand Side Response programme brought the results we expected. The transparency with which the demand reduction mechanism was presented and the prospect of measurable financial benefits convinced us to use the company’s services.
