Enel X - Sustainable mobility: the help the planet was needing

According to the UN, transport is responsible for approximately a quarter of energy-related CO2 emissions. A problem that should not be turned away and against which the Earth has already launched its particular SOS.

To respond to this great call from the planet, countries have already begun to implement policies aimed at significantly reducing pollution. Among the initiatives proposed by the UN are establishing efficiency standards in the automobile sector and incentives for the transport of zero emissions, as well as increasing investments in non-motorized mobility. The objective is clear: to adopt urgent measures to combat climate change and its effects without neglecting the advantages of transport in the economic and social development of the population.

Sustainable mobility plays a key role and the growing commitment to emission-free vehicles is one of the main pillars of this commitment to cleaner mobility.

Government support for electrified vehicles (lower taxes, circulation in restricted areas, etc.), together with the firm commitment of brands for these types of models, have made the electrified mobile park is growing. During the past year, its worldwide sales grew 64% (2.1 million units). A figure that represents 2.2% of the total (1.44 million are 100% electric) but still has a long way to go. According to estimates by the International Energy Agency, more than 300 million electrified vehicles could circulate on roads in 2040.

Many cities also contribute their grain of sand with formulas that make urban transport cleaner and more efficient. Among them are the promotion of alternative transport, such as bicycles, electric skateboards and shared vehicles; the creation of traffic areas restricted to traffic; the improvement of the public transport network with cleaner fuels (gas or electricity); the adoption of silent asphalts; the decrease of the speed limits in the center of the cities; and the temporary restriction of vehicles.

They are some of the answers to make the Earth a cleaner planet. A space in which other leading agents such as autonomous vehicles and electric trucks will soon come into play, to name a few.

The goal is clear: make the advantages of mobility compatible with the care of the environment. We all have to make it possible.
