Enel has arrived in South-Central Chile: San Pedro de la Paz, a small town located to the southwest of the Biobío River. The power company has arrived like the dawning sun, bringing energy far beyond the Greater Santiago area.
As part of its shared value and community service model, bringing energy efficiency and enhanced safety standards for residents, Enel has installed LED streetlights in this populous district.
The company won a public tender process for the work, which was then implemented by Enel Distribución’s Major Institutional Clients Division. It involved replacement of 8,240 lights, with 2,980 featuring new remote management monitoring.
The triumphant return of LED lighting
The new street lighting, which will help return life to the streets, alleyways, and plazas of San Pedro de la Paz, was installed at a cost of more than two billion Chilean pesos of investment.
Funding was drawn from the district’s own budget, through credit from the Department of Regional Development.
The loan will be repaid within no more than five years, thanks to the savings to be garnered from usage of LED lighting in the district.
Estimates indicate that costs will be some 40% lower than usage of traditional bulbs; once the loan has been repaid, the savings will go directly to the San Pedro de la Paz local government, to invest in high-priority projects for the district and its residents.
Enel brings quality of life with light
Enel sees this initiative as a milestone for its new business objectives, in line with its mission of reaching out to more clients in order to put technology at their service, bolstering energy efficiency and safety for residents.
The children of San Pedro de la Paz have reaped the greatest rewards and expressed the greatest happiness with the new initiative: now they are free to go out and play in much safer streets and plazas, with excellent lighting in play areas.
This new technology, which contains no mercury of sodium, is environmentally friendly and allows locals to take ownership of their public spaces, enjoying sports, recreation, and artistic-cultural activities.
