The energy transition is opening up new scenarios within the energy market. Businesses that are becoming increasingly sensitive to issues of environmental sustainability and energy efficiency are modifying their approach to energy consumption. They are also seizing new opportunities that enable them to improve their energy performance and reduce consumption, thereby cutting the environmental impact of their activities and opening up new ways to boost revenues. Today industrial and commercial clients are becoming the market’s key players, because they can modulate their own consumption in a revolutionary way in order to respond to peaks in energy demand and supply, thanks to dispatching services. Simply put, Demand Response is the smart innovation of energy consumption that drastically reduces wastage and provides greater flexibility and stability to the electricity grid. It also offers financial remuneration for the customers taking part in the service.
Unieuro has turned to the digital and technological experience of Enel X as its Balancing Service Provider (BSP) for the Demand Response programme in which the Enel subsidiary is a global leader. Unieuro will participate in the Demand Response programme through the modulation of energy consumption at nine of its retail points, which Enel X will be providing with real-time balancing orders to stabilise the grid based on the given availability at each site. For the application of demand response to the retail sector, the Sales & Flexibility team at Enel X carried out a detailed study including consumption analysis with the aim of best identifying the client’s flexibility and the resources available at each site. Unieuro, a business that has adopted numerous energy efficiency measures at its retail points, has for some time been adapting its premises for the use of Building Automation, the system that enables the management of buildings in such a way as to maximise energy efficiency.
It is difficult to imagine a smarter partnership than that between Unieuro and Enel X, two companies that are using digital intelligence to benefit both the environment and their own customers.
