The Enel X Argentina team installed a photovoltaic park for Pepsi-Co in Uruguay, which provides 100 kWp of power to one of its logistics centers, dedicated to packaging and distribution of its food line.
The solar park, located in the same logistics area of the multinational, in Montevideo, has 250 panels, each of 400 Wp (peak watt), and is estimated to occupy a space of more than 300 square meters.
It is a so-called turnkey project, since it covers all the engineering, equipment supply and construction of the solar park.
With this initiative, which became operational in October 2020, the multinational food company will improve its consumption profile, in line with energy efficiency objectives and also with the energy transition process in the region.
This is the first photovoltaic project developed by Enel X in Uruguay and the second for self-consumption installed by Pepsi-Co in the region, since the first is located in Chile. The chances of it being replicated in Argentina or other countries in the southern cone are high, given the currently beneficial market conditions.
In accordance with the vision of those responsible for the project on the part of each company, this alliance shows the high commitment of both multinationals with the objectives of energy efficiency, environmental protection and caring for the planet.
Jorge Cernadas, head of Enel X Uruguay, this project represented a great challenge locally, since not only was it the first of its kind, “but it was also built during the pandemic period, with total control and compliance with all the protocols of health agreed between the parties ”.
Juan Camilo Pineda, project lider, highlighted the importance of this project for being the company the size of Pepsico, adding that it overcame all the adversities the world faced throughout 2020.
Although with this action they promote green culture internally, they are also moving towards the realization of new projects that improve people's quality of life and facilitate the energy transition, in line with the objective of being carbon neutral by 2050.
Pepsi Co is a global Enel X key account.
With more than 50 years in Uruguay, Pepsi Co has three lines of business: food, beverages and concentrates.
In addition to the logistics center, located in the department of Montevideo, it has two production centers in the country and more than 300 employees in total.
Juan Camilo Pineda, project leader, highlighted the importance of this project for being a company the size of Pepsico, adding that it overcame all the adversities the world faced throughout 2020.
