With a history of developing, installing, and operating energy storage and solar-plus-storage systems, Enel X has built one of the largest distributed energy storage portfolios in New York City and has partnered with an array
of customers to bring energy storage projects to life.
To help optimize the facility’s energy con- sumption and contribute to the Massachusetts electric grid, UMass Boston partnered with Enel X for a fully financed, turnkey project that includes a 1 MW solar photovoltaic system, a 500 kW/2MWh lithium-ion battery storage system, and 11 Enel X JuiceBox electric vehicle (EV) smart charging stations on the campus.
New York City is one of the most energy-intensive urban environments in the world, approaching 14 GW of demand. As an alternative to building out traditional grid infrastructure, Con Edison and other utilities are looking at microgrids to cover peak loading (and improve load factor), optimize delivery systems, and make the grid more efficient and reliable.
With nine backup generators on-site, this hospital was well-positioned to earn payments through ERCOT’s demand response (DR) program in Texas, which compensates large energy users that agree to reduce energy consumption when the grid is under duress.
