Connecticut Selects EnerNOC's EfficiencySMART to Reduce Energy Use at State Buildings

State Targets Continuous Energy Savings at up to 100 State Facilities as Part of 'Lead by Example' Program

BOSTON, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 04/11/12 -- EnerNOC, Inc. (NASDAQ: ENOC), a leading provider of energy efficiencyapplications and services for commercial, institutional, and industrial customers, today announced that the State of Connecticut has selected EnerNOC's EfficiencySMARTTM to reduce energy use and costs at up to 100 state facilities through 2014. EnerNOC will provide metering and monitoring equipment as well as cloud-based software that gives facilities managers access to real-time energy data, allowing for specific and timely actions to reduce energy consumption at colleges, medical campuses, correctional facilities, and other state buildings.

This initiative is part of a new Connecticut state program called Lead by Example, a partnership between the State's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and the Department of Administrative Services (DAS) that demonstrates the economic benefits of energy efficiency by achieving energy savings in state buildings. As part of this program, EfficiencySMART is expected to achieve significant savings to reduce Connecticut's energy budget and help the State use energy more efficiently moving forward.

"The state of Connecticut spends more than $100 million a year to provide heating, cooling, and electricity for its buildings," said DEEP Commissioner Daniel C. Esty. "Lead by Example will help us bring that bill down -- providing real savings for taxpayers, reducing the environmental footprint of state government, and proving to municipalities, businesses and property owners that energy efficiency is a sound investment."

"Knowing more about the state's energy consumption provides a very real opportunity to better manage our facilities, achieve efficiencies, and save money," said DAS Commissioner Donald DeFronzo. "In this time of tight budgets, we need to do more with less and this new system will help us do just that."

By harnessing real-time meter data from a variety of sources, EfficiencySMART allows large, multi-site organizations like the State of Connecticut to optimize energy usage. EfficiencySMART establishes benchmarks within and across facilities, identifies top performers, provides user-configurable alerts to avoid overuse, and uncovers additional savings opportunities. State facilities managers can also generate on-demand and scheduled reports that help them identify efficiency opportunities prioritize ongoing projects by anticipated savings and return on investment. Throughout this project, EnerNOC's energy analysts will also provide expert analysis of building energy use, helping the State to achieve continuous energy savings across the enrolled facilities.

"When budgets are constrained, energy efficiency is one of the best investments any large organization can make. Energy efficiency helps states, organizations, and businesses optimize their operations so that they can focus resources on supporting greater productivity and building their workforce," said Tim Healy, Chairman and CEO of EnerNOC. "EnerNOC has a long history of success in Connecticut, where we have been providing demand response since the Company's very earliest days. We are excited to build upon that legacy by collaborating with the State of Connecticut on this innovative, cost-saving energy efficiency program."

EnerNOC provides energy efficiency and other energy management services for many states and public entities, including the States of New Mexico, Rhode Island, Colorado, Vermont, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, among others.
