Corporate Sustainability at Enel X North America

Corporate Sustainability at Enel X North America

Ensuring a Sustainable Future

Enel X North America is deeply committed to corporate responsibility and environmental stewardship.

We actively strive to make the world sustainable for future generations through our business model focused on changing the way the world uses energy, reducing our corporate footprint, and enabling our employees to live more sustainably.

Enel X North America sustainability has six focus areas:

  • Leadership in sustainability and energy intelligence
  • Implementing energy efficiency best practices
  • LEED Gold certification for our global headquarters
  • Waste and e-waste reduction
  • Employee engagement
  • Community outreach

Our Sustainability Committee meets periodically to review progress in each focus area.

Leadership in Sustainability and Energy Intelligence

As a leading provider of energy intelligence software, we enable our customers to make more intelligent energy decisions.

But we’re also committed to "walking the walk" and operating by the energy management and sustainability best practices we work with customers to prioritize within their own organizations.

Energy Efficiency

Enel X employees have applied their expertise in energy services to act as the commissioning agent at our Boston headquarters to improve the efficiency of all HVAC, lighting, and audio visual systems, which helps to limit environmental impacts, decrease operating costs, and meet greenhouse gas reduction goals.

LEED Gold Certification

Enel X North America's headquarters in Boston’s Innovation District was the first newly constructed LEED Gold Certified building in the city and is a physical example of the environmentally and socially responsible values that Enel X strives to operate by across the company. Enel X also has two LEED Innovation credits.

Waste and E-waste Reduction

Enel X North America is committed to reducing the amount of waste and toxins that are disposed of in landfills or incineration facilities. Our daily operations include reusable supply stations, composting, and a single-stream recycling program.

Enel X is fundamentally concerned with e-waste, the fastest growing waste stream in the US (accounting for 220M pounds of waste per year!). We partner with The Big Green Box to ethically dispose of spent batteries and portable electronics.

Community Outreach

Enel X North America regularly participates in company-wide volunteer days in the communities in which we operate, and promotes ongoing opportunities for employees to engage with their own communities.

This commitment to corporate citizenship is part of our culture and one of the many reasons our employees find Enel X a rewarding place to work.

Employee Engagement

Enel X North America engages employees in reducing their own carbon footprints through WeSpire, a platform that helps to build awareness of their own environmental impact and encourages users to adopt healthy, sustainable lifestyles at home and in the workplace.

Water Works:

Enel X North America employs building strategies that increase water efficiency to reduce the burden on municipal water supply and wastewater systems. As employee awareness is a large factor in conservation, the Sustainability Committee is also developing methods to measure usage, set water savings goals, and encourage employee water conservation.

Green Benefits:

Enel X North America's Green Benefits program provides a combination of discounts and reimbursements to reward employees who make eco-friendly consumer purchases including fuel-efficient vehicles, ENERGY STAR certified appliances, car-sharing programs, and solar panels for home installation. Enel X North America offices compete against each other in the Bike Commute Challenge each year.

Enel X employees in Boston are also encouraged to log their green commutes through the Green Streets Initiative Corporate Challenge ride/walk days each month. Enel X also participates in a community supported agriculture (CSA) program, which delivers sustainable and locally grown produce to the Boston office during the growing season.
