“We are delighted to have secured largest market share of Demand Response in the first grid capacity auction ever held in Ireland. This market is going through a rapid transformation while adapting to the EU electricity system and our strong track record of delivering a wide variety of demand response products and grid services puts us in a unique position to help our Irish customers address this change and secure the most value from their participation in the demand response programme”
Energy demand management services are aimed at incentivising large companies with high levels of consumption, such as production plants, data centres and construction companies, to adapt their energy consumption by reducing or increasing it in order to stabilise the network. The assigned capacity will be used according to the I-SEM agreements to create greater opportunities for dynamic transactions and trading and to ensure network flexibility, in addition to providing a more efficient energy infrastructure, thereby managing to contain costs and offer the consumer more competitive prices. In fact, this programme allows users to collect an annual profit in exchange for being on standby and ready to respond in the case of a grid emergency, as well as offering increased rates in the event of actual transmission.
Together with the establishment of a capacity market, the Irish transmission system operator EirGrid will continue to introduce new demand management opportunities with the aim of achieving a share of 40% of energy generation in Ireland produced from renewable resources.
