Electric mobility and Enel’s Global Business Line e-Solutions is at the centre of the debate at “Echoes of Villa d’Este”. The meeting, organized in Brussels on 28 September by the Italian Initiative Group, represented an opportunity for in-depth examination, bringing right to the heart of the EU the themes discussed at the 43rd edition of the Forum promoted by The European House-Ambrosetti (THEA) at Villa d’Este in Cernobbio, Lake Como.
At the centre of the meeting, and chaired by the European Director of Ansa, Enrico Tibuzzi, was a panel dedicated to the theme of electric mobility, which was also the subject of the study e-Mobility Revolution, presented at the beginning of September and compiled by THEA in collaboration with Enel’s Global Business Line e-Solutions.
The work of the panel was opened by Elena Basile, Italian ambassador in Brussels, and was followed by the introductory report by Valerio De Molli, CEO of The European House Ambrosetti. Next came speeches by the Coreper 1 Deputy Permanent Representative for Italy, Giovanni Pugliese, and the President of the Italian Initiative Group Roberto Zangrandi, about European and Italian economic and technological scenarios and the role of electric mobility as a driver of competitiveness in the Italian and European systems.
Alberto Piglia, Head of e-Mobility Enel X and a member of the panel dedicated to electric mobility, presented the best practices of our division in the sector with an analysis that ranged from the Italian market to a European perspective. “Just a few years ago electric mobility was spoken of as an idea, today we can talk of solid actions that are turning it into reality. All of this is thanks to the rapid progress of technology that is making e-mobility an important instrument with which to face some of the great challenges of the coming years,” explained Piglia.
Electric mobility, he added, represents a game changer, a genuine turning point because it responds in an effective way to problems such as population growth, urbanization and atmospheric pollution.
E-mobility, in fact, offers benefits in terms of energy efficiency, environmental sustainability and security, explained Piglia, highlighting that, above all, it offers an opportunity for sustainable growth. “The value chain for electric mobility includes multiple industrial and service sectors, with considerable potential in terms of added value and employment. It is with this in mind that the electrification of transport systems represents an important opportunity for industry and for the modernization of the European economy.”
The step to take now, concluded Piglia, “is to transform the benefits of electric mobility into tangible solutions for European consumers.”
Electric mobility is, in fact, one of the main themes requiring legislation from Brussels. On 8 November the second part of the so-called Mobility Package was presented, following the six legislative initiatives presented on 30 May. The new batch of interventions included an analysis of the current state of implementation of national strategic plans aiming for the development of a recharging infrastructure and the distribution of alternative fuels.
In addition to Piglia’s intervention, the debate on electric mobility also included speeches by Simona Bonafè, member of the European Parliament’s Commission for the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, and Alessandro Carano, member of the Cabinet of the Commission for Transport, headed by Violeta Bulc.
