What are the main types of boilers used and how do they work?

Most boilers used to heat indoor spaces are powered by methane gas, and many of these can work with LPG. Oil boilers are currently becoming less common due to their greater running costs and higher levels of polluting emissions, but some very old systems still use them. There are also biomass boilers, so-called pellet boilers, which enable economic savings but are difficult to manage because they require a continuous supply of pellets.
