What are batteries used for in the industrial sector?

Energy Storage systems serve 3 main functions:

  1. “Load levelling” or optimising self-production with respect to energy taken from the grid, so that surplus energy produced can be stored and then used at times when power from the grid is more costly
  2. “Peak shaving” or reducing load peaks, by storing energy to use at peak demand times, thereby obtaining savings by using the energy at lower rates
  3. “Resilience” or ensuring the continuity of the energy supply to production processes by managing any potential interruptions in the supply from the grid.
