Enel X has won the ADI (Association for Industrial Design) Compasso d'Oro (Golden Compass), the world’s oldest and most respected design award. Since 1954 this prestigious accolade has been acknowledging the quality of Italian design at international level. Our company was selected as one of the winners of the award, which this year is in its 26th edition. This was for the design of our JuicePole and JuiceBox charging infrastructure, the excellence of which was recognised by the commission of ADI’s permanent Design Observatory. The award was given during a ceremony that took place on 9 September at the new ADI Design Museum-Compasso d'Oro in Milan, at the opening of the exhibition of this year’s winning projects.
Practicality, elegance, functionality and style are the distinctive features of the two charging infrastructures, the design of which won over the members of the Observatory commission composed of experts, designers, critics, historians, journalists and associate members of ADI who constantly assess products or product systems from every trade sector that excel for their design. Each year the winners are selected from the best products included in the ADI Design Index.
The JuiceBox and the JuicePole are Enel X’s main charging solutions for enabling the spread of electric mobility in Italy and around the world. As well as their unique and iconic design, which is also adaptable to different use contexts, the charging stations are characterised by their cutting-edge technology, their attention to sustainability, their practicality and safety. The two infrastructures, which are destined for use in urban and rural settings and are suitable for private and public use, are designed to open up the world of electric mobility to everyone: residents, businesses and local government organisations.
In particular, the JuicePole is our open-air charging solution, designed for public use at strategic points for mobility in an urban environment, or for private use in the car parks of companies or local government organisations. The Juicebox, on the other hand, is our advanced solution for domestic charging. It’s designed to ensure rapid and safe charging and is now available in a new version with the elegant and innovative design acknowledged by the Compasso d'Oro.
The award ceremony, which recognised Enel X among the examples of “Made in Italy” style and design excellence, was one of the first public events in Milan to take place after the restrictions introduced on account of the Covid-19 emergency. The exhibition, which displays all of the projects that received the award this year including the JuiceBox and JuicePole, previewed the opening of the ADI Design Museum-Compasso d'Oro. This 5,135 m2 space will house the new ADI premises as well as exhibition areas for design objects and a permanent collection of all of the articles that have won the prize since its establishment.
The event also revives the ADI initiative Le Vie del Compasso d’Oro (the routes of the Compasso d’Oro which, from 10 September to 31 January, together with Milan Fashion Week and the Fuorisalone Re-Design Edition, offers the public, tourists and professional operators the chance to find out more about ADI, the prizewinners and the excellence of Italian design. This is through a series of itineraries around the Milan area and its surroundings to learn about the projects selected in over 60 years of the award.
Thanks to an electronic guide and an interactive map, it will be possible to visit a select itinerary including 90 evocative locations connected to the award and to design: design studios, companies, shops, galleries, museums, foundations, installations and public sites. The Enel X itinerary is centred on the award-winning charging infrastructure and includes chef Davide Oldani’s D’O restaurant in Cornaredo, where JuicePole charging stations have been installed.
The success of electric mobility is also a question of style, concerning the elegance of form and shape as well as lifestyle. For this reason all of our charging solutions combine aesthetics with the values at the centre of the electric mobility revolution: innovation, safety and sustainability. There is just one goal: to bring the future of mobility to the cities and homes of everyone.
