The first charging stations for the project launched to promote sustainable mobility in Italy’s authentic villages are already operating in Castellaneta, province of Taranto. Enel X and the “Borghi Autentici d’Italia” organisation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the installation of charging infrastructure in all the communities taking part in the initiative. The aim of this green initiative is to promote e-mobility as a regional development tool and to assist in the promotion of a form of tourism that respects the environment.

The signing of the agreement took place at the offices of the Castellaneta municipal administration and was attended by mayor Giovanni Gugliotti, Luigi Ottaiano, Enel X’s Head of e-Mobility Italy, Rosanna Mazzia, president of the Associazione Borghi Autentici d’Italia and Stefania Giannico, vice-president of the Castellaneta Local Council. Ten charging stations have been installed in Castellaneta, in Piazza John Kennedy, Via David Scott, Via Don Luigi Sturzo, Via Giuseppe Ungaretti and Piazza dell’Europa Unita.

The Enel X charging infrastructure units feature a dual socket that conforms to Italian and international standards, enabling all e-vehicle types currently available as well as new-generation models to “fill up”. The Enel X Recharge App means the charging stations are extremely simple and intuitive to use and the entire process can be managed directly from a smartphone.

Castellaneta is an increasingly smart town, with public facilities and services that are helping it to grow day by day thanks to an integrated ecological approach that combines the careful use of public resources with environmentally sustainable initiatives

Giovanni Gugliotti

Mayor of Castellaneta

Signing the Memorandum enables us to achieve even more widespread penetration across the country, especially in the villages belonging to the Associazione Borghi Autentici d’Italia, which must be protected and conserved. This programme envisages comprehensive coverage across all Italian regions, and will contribute to increasing the number of electric and hybrid vehicles on our roads.
