Enel X and CharIn: high power charging together
Enel X is now a Core Member of CharIn, the international association established by the leading players in the automobile industry, including Audi, BMW and Porsche, to develop and promote the use of new charging systems capable of supplying up to 350 kW per charging point

Electric mobility has gone up a gear on Europe’s streets and roads thanks to the many innovative solutions now being offered by the leading car manufacturers. That said, one of the big talking points in any discussion about e-mobility has to be how to “fill-up” fast, easily and sufficiently to enable e-cars to travel significant distances. It was with this in mind that our Group began forming alliances with high profile partners to guarantee a widespread network of fast charging points in Italy and across Europe.
From today Enel X is now one of the Core Members of the Charging Interface Initiative, the association founded by manufacturers Audi, BMW, Daimler, Mennekes, Opel, Phoenix Contact, Porsche, TÜV SÜD and Volkswagen to promote and support the spread of high-powered charging points capable of supplying up to 350 kW.
Based in Berlin, CharIn is developing and establishing the Combined Charging System (CCS) as the standard for charging battery-powered electric vehicles. The multinational association’s mission is also to draw up requirements for the evolution of charging-related standards with the aim of developing a certification system for use by manufacturers implementing the combined charging system in their products.
As we are an established force on the e-mobility scene, our Group is seeking to broaden its own horizons through a partnership with CharIn to boost the development of the High Power Charging (HPC) network that uses the Combined Charging System (CCS) which can supply a capacity of up to 350 kW per charging point.
This is a strategic, synergic partnership that will harmonise a path already embarked upon by Enel X in order to make e-mobility in Europe an everyday reality that is accessible and affordable for everyone. Our Group is maximising its commitment to implementing common standards and sharing good practices that will help the spread of the e-mobility culture.
The EV charging network, roadmaps, framework, interoperability and Vehicle-to-Grid integration are the key terms that illustrate the shared focus of the CharIn members, a focus that is reflected in the goals of Enel X, the global business line dedicated to innovative digital products and solutions.
