Sustainable mobility: Enel and MiBACT together for zero-impact tourism

Cutting emissions, eliminating environmental and noise pollution, while promoting economic growth, the development of Italy’s industrial supply chain and the creation of shared values. Electric mobility will encourage all of this, and the memorandum of understanding between Enel and Italy’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MiBACT) means the tourism sector will also be involved.

The purpose of the document, signed by Enel CEO Francesco Starace and Dario Franceschini, Italy’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, is to raise public awareness of electric mobility. This is to be achieved by incentivising the creation of an institutional frame of reference that can facilitate commercial agreements with the relevant associations to develop a charging infrastructure in tourist locations.

Also present at the signing ceremony were MiBACT’s Tourism General Manager Francesco Palumbo and Enel X Chairman and CEO Francesco Venturini.

Enel X will handle the establishment of relationships with associations and tourist organisations for the installation of charging points that are specifically designed for each hotel and restaurant structure. The aim is to offer a valid, sustainable electric mobility alternative for guests at the tourist facilities who plan to use e-cars on their holidays, thanks to new charging opportunities and greater autonomy. Enel will try out the new electric mobility systems in metropolitan areas and cities that attract large numbers of tourists, researching and designing new, replicable solutions that can be adopted elsewhere in Italy.

There can be no sustainable tourism without sustainable mobility. That’s why agreements like the one signed today are crucial to achieving the objectives set out in the Strategic Tourism Plan, which involves developing the sector in total harmony with the local area, also in a zero-emission framework
