Demand Response: Enel X obtains the largest market share in Ireland
Through EnerNOC – a US company of the Enel Group and leader in Demand Response – Enel X has been awarded the supply of 217 MW of resources for the management of the Irish energy demand at the country's first grid capacity auction launched by the transmission system operators in Ireland and Northern Ireland. The grid capacity market was launched in response to the Target Model for the integration of the electricity markets within the European Union – aimed also at integrating the Irish electricity markets that are lagging behind the rest of Europe – within the context of the Integrated Single Electricity Market (I-SEM), the new wholesale market agreement.
Enel X will hold 40% of Demand Response service management throughout the island, with a virtual power plant that is expected to grow 60% year-on-year, from the current 136 MW to reach – at the start of the new capacity market in May – the total of 217 MW awarded during the tender.
We are delighted to have secured largest market share of Demand Response in the first grid capacity auction ever held in Ireland. This market is going through a rapid transformation while adapting to the EU electricity system and our strong track record of delivering a wide variety of demand response products and grid services puts us in a unique position to help our Irish customers address this change and secure the most value from their participation in the demand response programme
