To give energy new forms, empowering our customers and enabling them to shape new experiences and new, smarter, more sustainable uses.
Our job is to find and fine-tune effective solutions every day to enable people to benefit from a growing number of simple, fast tools that transform energy into services.
Our goal is to break down the boundaries between energy and services, creating rapid, integrated solutions for people, businesses and cities that can facilitate the transition towards a sustainable energy economy.
Our business aims to provide a wide range of energy-related services. Our mission is to be a factory producing innovative solutions that are the result of a completely new and constantly evolving perception of energy.
We provide a set of open and flexible solutions that can connect individuals, urban ecosystems, business districts and transport.
Connections that take different forms: distribution systems and energy storage batteries, smart lighting solutions and low-consumption LEDs, electric mobility and fast-charging services, instruments for smart energy and equipment management in homes, buildings and cities, and software to control energy exchange in distributed self-generation systems (Demand Management & Response).
Through these solutions, we want to create opportunities for growth and progress, by listening to our customers and looking ever further ahead. We want to partner with businesses, in order to understand their needs and make them more competitive. In the same way, we want to help cities, in order to guide them through sustainable growth, and we want to help people improve the quality of their everyday lives.
We are paving the way for an even more collaborative and connected economy. We create energy services by opening up to new operators and integrating new sectors. We are an Energy Cloud Platform.
Francesco Venturini
Chairman and CEO of Enel X
We want to take this new energy wave everywhere in the world, to help humanity progress through sustainability.
This project is the result of the experience of a great energy utility, the Enel Group, and of a strategic vision that is open to change. That is why, to paraphrase that great innovator Isaac Newton, if we believe we can see further into the future of energy, it is because we are standing on the shoulders of giants.
In order to provide the new solutions requested by customers and to be ready for the future, we have decided to structure our business into four Global Product Lines:
e-Industries, offering solutions aimed at businesses, focusing on flexible services (consulting, technologies linked to energy efficiency, distributed generation, demand-side management like Demand Response and the creation of off-grid solutions).
e-Mobility, targeting every client profile with the aim of becoming the technological leader in the sector and promoting increasingly widespread and efficient electrical mobility and charging infrastructures, Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) and second-life battery services.
e-Home, which focuses on people with the aim of managing the domestic eco-system, offering innovative automation products and services, for smarter, safer, more efficient and comfortable homes.
e-City, offering local government integrated services like public lighting, smart city systems and energy efficiency services, as well as connectivity solutions like the wholesale offer of fibre-optic services.
Alongside the four Global Product Lines, we have also created the “Innovation & Product Lab,” which develops and tests – often with creative input from startups, research centres, universities and clients – new scalable products and services with a circular economy approach. The results include new flexibility service solutions like Demand Response, digital payment, adaptive public lighting systems and City Analytics, an instrument that enables local authorities to organise and manage services in real time through Big Data analysis. But we have also developed bespoke solutions for individual countries, like the “Vivi Meglio” (“Live Better”) energy and seismic redevelopment project, created to promote energy efficiency and technical modernisation, and to enhance safety standards in Italy’s construction industry.
In order to be able to see further ahead and identify the technologies that can multiply the possibilities of transforming energy into services, the Enel Group has placed openness to the outside world and the continuous search for innovative solutions at the heart of its strategy. The creation of partnerships and the acquisition of dynamic, open companies and start-ups is a cornerstone of our business. This is the path that we are pursuing in order to expand our team through acquisitions aimed at increasing our ability to promote growth and progress. These are the transactions completed to date:
Demand Energy (DEN) offers turnkey solutions designed to control and optimise the operational and financial performance of energy storage and distributed generation technologies. The key to creating value from these assets lies in the DEN.OS software platform, an end-to-end solution that analyses operational data to apply distributed energy resources in a way that will maximise the financial output for both utilities and commercial and industrial enterprises.
Enel X North America, formerly EnerNOC, provides energy management services and solutions to commercial and industrial enterprises, and is the world leader in demand response – managing a capacity of 6.2GW for more than 4,800 customers worldwide. Through its strategic energy procurement services, utility bill management solutions, and energy intelligence software – in addition to its demand response services – Enel X North America helps its customers develop and execute an effective energy management strategy.
eMotorWerks: these technologies can be supported by other services from our portfolio, from home automation systems to e-mobility. In the mobility sector, we are supported by the expertise provided by eMotorWerks, the leading US provider of e-vehicle charging systems, which is now part of our new e-mobility business unit for North America. Its leading product is the JuiceBox, a charging infrastructure integrated with JuiceNet, an Internet of Things (IoT) platform for the intelligent management of accumulated distribution systems. These solutions are available for every type of customer, business or retail.
