In which circumstances is it possible to implement a microgrid?
Here follows a list of contexts in which micro grids have been introduced:
Industries and agricultural areas that aim to reduce their energy bills by integrating distributed generation sources (such as photovoltaic and electricity and steam cogeneration
University campuses and research centres intent on reducing the environmental impact of their activities
Commercial and industrial clients seeking to reduce their peak time intakes from the electricity grid in order to take advantage of cheaper electricity rates
Energy market expert clients (usually high energy users), who, in addition to wanting to cut their electricity bills using microgrids, also wish to capitalise on their own resources to supply energy or paid services to the national grids [see the question about Demand Response]
Consumers that need to safeguard against potential blackouts and use microgrids to improve the stability and resilience of their electricity supply, thereby minimising damage or losses caused by power outages (e.g. data centres, hospitals, telecom towers).
