Battery storage systems work in three different phases:
- Phase 1, CHARGING: the battery storage system stores electricity from the grid, a power station, photovoltaic panels or other distributed sources, depending on the solution.
- Phase 2, OPTIMISATION: Enel X’s smart battery storage systems incorporate DER.OS machine-learning software which uses algorithms to optimise when the stored energy is used. Data concerning photovoltaic energy production is cross-referenced with your company’s operating data, energy market prices and weather conditions.
- Phase 3, DISCHARGE: the stored energy is discharged from the battery storage system when it is most advantageous to your company, such as at peak energy use times to reduce or eliminate costly demand charges.
