Moscow, January 9th 2020 – Enel X Rus, the Russian company of Enel’s advanced energy services business line Enel X, was awarded, for the first time, 2 MW of demand response capacity within the framework of a tender held by the System Operator of the United Power System of Russia, with the aim to provide demand response services in the country for the first quarter of 2020.
“This award is an important milestone for our company since it marks our first entry into Russia’s demand response market,” said Alexey Leonov, General Director of Enel X Rus. “By leveraging on Enel X’s global expertise in demand response, we will contribute to improve Russia’s network stability and flexibility, creating value for end users and the country’s power system as a whole.”
Following the award, Enel X Rus is providing 2 MW of demand response capacity in Russia’s First Price Zone (Central Russia and Urals) until March 31st, 2020. The company will provide the System Operator with information about end user consumption profile over the previous day and about its readiness to reduce electricity demand, with Enel X Rus also helping secure this reduction upon request by the Operator itself. Following successful reduction of demand in line with the System Operator’s requests in terms of timing and volumes, Enel X Rus will receive a payment from the Operator, to be shared with the participating end user
The tender, which assigned 198 MW in the First Price Zone and 31 MW in the Second Price Zone, is aimed at managing electricity demand in Russia's United Power System, especially during peak hours when there is heavy demand on the system, to provide greater grid flexibility, stability, and more efficient use of power infrastructure, while helping maintain electricity prices as low as possible for all consumers. Under demand response programs, end users are paid a monthly fee in exchange for their availability to adjust their power consumption in order to respond to power system needs, hence supporting grid stabilization.
Enel X is Enel’s global business line dedicated to developing innovative products and digital solutions in sectors in which energy is showing the greatest potential for transformation: cities, homes, industries and electric mobility. In May 2018, the company registered its subsidiary in Russia, Enel X Rus.
