Endesa’s new business line will develop and offer new, advanced value-added energy solutions to meet the needs of Spanish businesses, cities and household customers.
Endesa X will install over 8,500 public charging points for a total investment of 65 million euros: over 2,000 points in 2019-2020 giving access to public charging infrastructure to 75% of Spain’s population; over 6,500 points in 2021-2023 to ensure a more widespread coverage of urban areas, major motorways and islands
Over the plan period, Endesa X aims to install around 100,000 private charging points on residential and corporate premises
The power supplied by the over 8,500 points will be fully green certified, guaranteeing drivers that the energy used by their cars comes from 100% renewable energy sources
Madrid, November 16th, 2018 – Endesa presented today its plan to install over 100,500 public and private electric vehicle (EV) charging points in Spain, which will be carried out by Endesa X, the company’s new business line for value added services and innovative technological energy solutions. With the installation of over 8,500 public charging points in 2019-2023 for an investment of 65 million euros, as well as around 100,000 private points, this is by far the most ambitious plan to boost electric mobility ever laid out in the country. José Bogas, Endesa's CEO said, "electric mobility is a strategic cornerstone for Endesa, since it is a fundamental step towards achieving a fully decarbonised energy system by 2050, a goal we share with all countries that signed the COP21 Paris agreements, and a large number of different Spanish and international social and economic players." While the technological advancements in electric vehicle technology have substantially increased battery autonomy and made the price of EVs more competitive compared to fuel-powered vehicles, the availability of a large network of charging points throughout the entire country is needed for the full transition to electric mobility. Endesa X conceived its plan to address this need, in response to the growing electric vehicle market, as 40% of Spanish drivers have expressed interest in buying an electric car, according to several market studies.
At today’s event in Madrid's Goya Theatre, the e-Mobility plan was presented by José Bogas together with the Head of Endesa X, Josep Trabado and Endesa X Director of e-Mobility Elena Bernárdez. Closing remarks were given by Francesco Venturini, Head of Enel X, the advanced energy services business line of Enel, the Group to which Endesa belongs. This event also introduced Endesa X, which was launched to respond to the energy transition and to the changing needs of a more aware and sophisiticated customer.
Endesa X’s Plan, will be implemented in two stages: 2019-2020 - In the first two years of the plan, Endesa X will install over 2,000 charging points to link cities with more than 35,000 residents, covering covering 15,000 kilometres of main roads. This first phase will provide access to a public charging infrastructure to 75% of Spain’s population, ensuring that drivers will always be within 100 kilometres of the next available charging point. 2021-2023 - In the second stage, Endesa will install over 6,500 additional public charging points
(in shopping centres, car parks, hotel chains, service areas, public roads, etc.) to ramp up coverage of urban zones and major motorways, including the islands. In addition, over the course of the plan, Endesa X will aim to install around 100,000 private charging points on residential and corporate premises. The plan will benefit from the expected introduction by car manufacturers of new electric vehicle models, most of which will have an autonomy of over 400 kilometres. The energy supplied by the plan’s public charging points will be fully green certified, guaranteeing drivers that their car will be powered by 100% renewable energy.
Endesa X’s plan will include infrastructure that use different technologies to address the various needs of EV drivers: the plan envisages the installation of 3.7 kW home charging infrastructure, 22 kW Quick charging points, 50 kW Fast points and over 150 kW Ultrafast charging points. All the infrastructures will be connected to the Enel X global digital platform that allows full interoperability and remote control of charging points. Endesa X aims to offer a seamless charging experience through the X-Recharge mobile app that will provide users with full access to information on charging infrastructure status and will allow them to manage charging sessions. Endesa X is a catalyst for change, driving new opportunities by leveraging on the expertise of Enel X in electric mobility, advanced energy solutions, flexibility services and demand-side management. Endesa X will develop and market innovative products and digital solutions targeting four sectors:
