The Italian movie that brings sustainability and innovation to the big screen

You’re an upwardly mobile manager and the date of your wedding is fast approaching. At the last minute you discover you’re already married. Becoming a bigamist because you got hitched for a laugh 20 years ago while visiting Las Vegas and out of your teenage head on peyote is going to look so great when angling for the next promotion, right Elena? Especially when Lorenzo, the husband you last saw at your drug-fueled wedding, is a gun-for-hire ghostwriter for politicians of any and every hue. What to do? Elena and her recently discovered “husband” must return to Sin City and cut through the bureaucracy to get a quickie divorce.
Those are the bare bones of the plot of Divorzio a Las Vegas (“Divorce in Las Vegas”), a new Italian comedy that will hit the screens Oct. 8.
The opening scene is set in an Enel X meeting room, in the Enel X offices in Rome’s Viale Tor di Quinto where some of the filming took place, in which a senior manager addresses his team.
“We’re bidding on a project that will improve people’s quality of life while reducing the environmental impact, creating the city, the housing, the transportation,” he tells them. “The project must be futuristic, with solutions that haven’t yet been developed. The environmental turning point will happen when the entire population can access digitalised, integrated, flexiblesolutions. This is the aim of our company, of all of us.”
Elena is ahead of the game. She is already working on a project that fits the bill. Contained in a folder with a blue Enel X cover that she hands to another senior executive as the meeting breaks up, is a project for the electrification of Rome’s fleet of buses. She later comes up with plans for car-sharing services, and a drive to create intelligent lighting and dwellings.
These are all ideas that reflect the mission and the role of Enel X – to develop innovative projects and services that help people, businesses and cities around the world use energy in new ways with sustainability at the centre. These are themes that are underlined several times during the film. It adds up to a fun way for Enel X to get the message of innovation and sustainability out to a wider audience.
