Enel X has agreed to supply and install a 47 kilometre electricity transmission line that will link one of Ashmont Resources Corporation Colombia’s gold mines with Colombia's national grid - Sistema de Transmisión Nacional (STN) - allowing the company to access saving opportunities resulting from the purchase of energy from the nation’s deregulated energy market.
Under the terms of the $5.4 million, seven-month accord, Enel X will build a new and more efficient system to supply electricity directly from the national grid to the Canadian company’s Santa Cruz mine, located in the Bolivar department in the north of the country in order to identify new energy saving opportunities.
Privately owned Ashmont Resources, which has offices in Vancouver and Bogota, focuses on exploring and developing high-value mineral resources in Columbia and Canada, including gold, silver, iron and platinum.
Enel X, the energy innovation unit of Italy’s electricity utility, aims to supply customers with sustainable generation and infrastructure solutions worldwide. By linking the mine with the national grid, Ashmont Resources will be able to manage its energy needs and costs at the same time as it focuses on its core business, as well as being in a position to seize the opportunities and savings offered by deregulated energy markets.
